Summer in the City

Now that summer is here, our newest location in Santa Monica is getting busy and for good reason. A couple of weeks ago the signs and logos went up on the building helping draw attention to an already growing customer base. There have already been multiple occasions when a  customer has come inside because they saw the signs on the building and showed interest in our products. And speaking of products, with the summer heat almost here it is a perfect time to buy air conditioners. So come as soon as you can to either our North Hollywood or Santa Monica location. With our signs up on our Santa Monica building we hope there is less customer confusion. Don’t Buy A New Washing Machine, Refrigerator, Or Air Conditioner!

Don’t buy a new washing machine, refrigerator, or air conditioner in California until April 22nd (Earth Day)!

If your washing machine, refrigerator, or air conditioner has bit the dust, or is about to, you should wait to purchase a new one on April 22, 2010 through May 23, 2010.

As we’ve discussed here, here, and here, and tweeted about here, here, here, here, here, here, and here, The US government has set aside $300,000,000 for a rebate program similar to the Cash For Clunkers program last year called Cash For Appliances.

Details for the program in California have been sketchy until yesterday.  On its official website Cash4Appliances.org, it was announced that rebates will be available for Californians who purchase  a washer, refrigerator, or air conditioner between April 22, 2010 (Earth Day) through May 23, 2010, and recycle their old one through a certified recycler.  The rebate applicant must be a California residential consumer and must purchase an eligible appliance that meets the state’s efficiency requirements. The purchased appliance must replace an existing, working appliance.

Rebates are first-come, first-serve and will be processed as received until funds are depleted. Rebate applications must be postmarked by June 25, 2010.

Consumers who take advantage of this program can receive $200 back for a qualified refrigerator, $100 back for a qualified clothes washer, and $50 back for a qualified room air conditioner!

Customers will receive their rebates within four to six weeks if the rebate claim is complete. A complete claim contains the filled out and signed rebate claim form with appliance serial number, certificate of recycled appliance, a copy of utility bill (to verify California residential address), and a copy of the sales receipt.

Additionally, the California Cash For Appliances rebates can be combined with other manufacturer, retailer, or utility company rebates!  Like these.

On Saturday, January 9th, Feder’s Outlet will officially be open for business.

Brand-new close-outs, slightly blemished, barely-used and more severely scratched or dented appliances (stoves, ranges, refrigerators, dishwashers, ovens, cooktops, hoods, microwaves, washers, dryers, and coin-op laundry) and air conditioners (room a/c) will be sold through the new outlet store located within a new wing of Feder’s Distributors existing showroom.

Our new outlet store, with the physical address of 5728 Lankershim Boulevard, should receive more than four hundred pieces in these condition types every month!  Ready to virtually give away!

Builder Model Replacement Air Conditioners and Air Conditioners with Heat
Most of the units we’re getting next week are perfect replacements for existing wall air conditioners. Like the Frigidaire “FAH” series (086, 08E, 096, 09E, 105, 106, 10E, 126, 12E, etc. models), LG “LT” series (LT126, LT12E, LT1230, LT1430, etc.), the GE “J” series, Gibson “GAH” series, Fedders “A” or “B” series (A1A10, A1B12), etc., and the few others manufacturers (Friedrich, Sunbeam), these units are rear discharge (a vent in the back) units and have solid sides.

No Need To Cut or Fill The Wall
Avoiding the burden and expense of cutting or filling the wall when removing an existing wall air conditioner, these units do not come with sleeves. They slide into the sleeve already built into the wall. If the sleeve is larger than 24″ wide and 14 1/2″ tall, these new Fedders models will slide right in. They come with a trim-kit to slide over the front of the unit and cover any gap between the sleeve and unit up to 27 1/2″ wide and 17″ tall.

Maytag Recalling 1.6 Million Refrigerators

Beacause we sell a lot of Maytag-branded refrigerators (Maytag, Jenn Air, Amana, Magic Chef), we wanted to keep our customers informed of a recall on some side-by-side and top-mount refrigerators issued by corporate yesterday.

Dear Valued Trade Customer:

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Maytag Corporation is voluntarily recalling about 1.6 million Maytag®, Jenn-Air®, Amana®, Admiral®, Magic Chef®, Performa by Maytag® and Crosley® brand side-by-side and top freezer refrigerators.

An electrical failure in the relay, the component that turns on the refrigerator’s compressor, can cause overheating and pose a serious fire hazard. Maytag has received 41 reports of refrigerator relay ignition, including 16 reports of property damage ranging from smoke damage to extensive kitchen damage.

We are asking for your help in locating sales information for consumers who purchased an affected refrigerator. Your cooperation is essential for us to reach potentially at-risk consumers.

The affected units were sold at department and appliance stores and by homebuilders nationwide from January 2001 through January 2004 for between $350 and $1600. They were manufactured in black, bisque, white and stainless steel and have model and serial numbers with the following combinations:
